Quick Guide
- Use HM03 Surf on Route 118 to navigate across the water.
- Talk to Steven and accompany him to Southern Island.
- Team up with Steven to defeat a Team Aqua/Magma Admin and Grunt.
- Upon returning to Route 118, locate the northern exit to Route 119.
Route 118
Route 118 is split into west and east sections by the sea.
Since you can now use Surf, travel eastward to cross the sea to the east section of the route.
After surfing to the other side of the beach, talk to a nearby Fisherman to receive a new Key Item—the Good Rod. This rod is an improved version of the Old Rod, allowing you to encounter rarer and higher-level Pokémon than before.

Talking to Steven
As you head east out of the beach area, you’ll encounter Steven once more.
In a lengthy cutscene, Latios (AS) or Latias (OR) will eventually appear to fly both you and Steven to a location known as Southern Island.
Southern Island
On Southern Island, there is no tall grass for finding Pokémon or hidden items to discover.
So upon arrival, head north to reach the location where Latias (AS) or Latios (OR) can be found.
Team Aqua/Magma Admin Multi Battle
Shortly after meeting Latias (AS) or Latios (OR), a Team Aqua/Magma Admin and a Grunt will show up, telling you to leave.
Refuse, and Steven will suggest teaming up with you in a Multi Battle to deal with them:
If you’re playing Alpha Sapphire:

Latias/Latios Joins Your Team
After Team Aqua/Magma leaves, Latias (AS) or Latios (OR) will join your team without having to battle or catch it. If your team is full, you’ll have to deposit one of your current party members.
If you’re playing Alpha Sapphire:

Mega Evolution
You’ll also receive a respective Mega Stone for whichever game your playing – the Latiasite (AS) or Latiosite (OR).
Following that, Steven will provide you with the Mega Bracelet, a Key Item enabling any Pokémon holding its corresponding Mega Stone to Mega Evolve.
Returning to Route 118
After the events on Southern Island, Latios or Latias will fly you and Steven back to Route 118.
Then Steven suggests traveling northward to reach Fortree City, and he will leave shortly after.
North Exit to Route 119
Continue your journey by heading east through the long grass. Go north past a Bird Keeper, and take the route’s northern exit to reach Route 119, your next destination.
