TM55 Scald can be found deep within Seafloor Cavern. In particular, the TM is located on a small island in one of the water current rooms (Room 5).
Prerequisites
Under Route 128 there is a huge underwater cave called the Seafloor Cavern. You first gain access to Seafloor Cavern while hunting down Team Aqua or Team Magma as part of the main story.
If you just want the TM for Scald, you won’t have to solve all the puzzles here. But make sure you’ve done all of this first before heading out:
- Obtained the seventh Gym Badge from Liza and Tate, Mossdeep City’s Gym Leaders. The Mind Badge allows you to use Dive outside of battle.
- Bring a Pokémon that knows HM03 Surf
- Bring a Pokémon that knows HM04 Strength
- Bring a Pokémon that knows HM07 Dive
Location
Once you’re all set, fly to Route 128 to get started.
Step 1: Use HM03 Surf and move westward on the water.
Step 2: Keep surfing west until you see a small sand bar. Then directly south of the sand bar, submerge underwater using the HM07 Dive.
Step 3: Enter the underwater cave.
Step 4: Once you’re in the cave, swim back up to the surface.
Step 5: Surf to the north until you reach the Seafloor Cavern entrance.
Step 6: Once you’re inside Seafloor Cavern, you’ll want to enter the next room through the door to the north.
Step 7: Then in the next room, go north and make a right turn near the breakable rock.
Step 8: Continue northward after passing the rock.
Step 9: Rather than going up the stairs, turn left and enter through the doorway towards the northwestern corner of the room.
Step 10: In this next room, take the path heading west.
Step 11: You’ll quickly run into a boulder on the left. Push it into the hole with HM04 Strength.
Once you push this boulder into the hole, start heading north up the left-hand corridor.
Step 12: Proceed to the next door in the northwest corner of the room.
Step 13: This will take you into an area with water currents. Use Surf on the body of water.
Step 14: Ride the water current going north to get to the northeast corner of the room. The exact water current is pictured below.
Step 15: Once this water current drops you off, then ride the water current immediately on the left of you.
Step 16: This water current brings you over to the right-hand corner of the room.
Enter the next room through the door in the northeast corner.
Step 17: In this next room, use Strength to move the boulder to the right so you can get around it.
Step 18: Then walk up & around the boulder, following the path back down so you can reach the south-eastern corner of this room. You’ll exit the room directly next to the boulder (pictured below).
Step 19: In this next area, move south and Surf on the water current on the left-hand side.
Step 20: Once this current drops you off, take the next current that goes east. It will be the very bottom-most current you can take in this spot (pictured below).
Step 21: Once you can move again, you’ll be completely surrounded by water currents on all sides.
You want to move south and take the current directly south of you. This will take you all the way around and drop you off near a small island.
Step 22: Surf onto the small island and pick up TM55 Scald.
