There are two ways to check your Pokémon’s Effort Values (EVs). You can talk to an NPC known as the EV Checker, or you can open the “Super Training” screen in your DexNav to get more specific EV stat details.
The EV checker NPC is a Pokémon Breeder that’s located in one of the stalls on the left-hand side in the Slateport City Market. She can verify if the Pokémon leading your party has maxed out its EVs. If so, she’ll present your Pokémon with the Effort Ribbon.
EV Checker Location
Among the landmarks in Slatepot City is the Slateport Market. On the left in the second row of stalls, you can find a Pokémon Breeder known as the EV Checker.
Starting from the Slateport City Pokémon Center we’ll show you how to reach the EV Checker’s exact location.
Step 1: From Slateport City’s Pokémon Center, take the left path heading southwards.
Step 2: Once you’re at the market you’ll pass under a wide orange canopy.
From here, continue going south and be on the lookout for the EV Checker. Her stall is located on the left side in the second row.
Step 3: On the left-hand side just look for a woman wearing a red hat and a red apron. She’ll be standing next to the Energy Guru.
Talk to her and you can check if the first Pokémon in your party has max EVs.
NPC Mechanics
Each Pokémon can accumulate a maximum of 510 EVs overall, with up to 252 in any single main stat.
Before you talk to the EV Checker you’ll want to make sure the Pokémon whose EVs you want to check is leading your party. She won’t let you choose a Pokémon, so she’ll just check the EVs of your party’s lead Pokémon.
Then she’ll tell you whether or not your Pokémon has hit that max amount of EVs (510).
If your Pokémon’s EVs are maxed out, the EV Checker will award it the Effort Ribbon — a sign of your Pokémon’s hard work and your dedication as a trainer!
Checking Your Pokémon’s EVs with the DexNav
Aside from the EV Checker, the “Super Training” feature of the DexNav also offers a way to track your Pokémon’s EVs.
Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do it:
Step 1: Navigate to your DexNav in the bottom screen. Then find and click the “Super Training” button under PlayNav.
Step 2: On this screen, a radar chart will display your Pokémon’s EV distribution.
Each spike in the graph stands for a different stat, and the spike’s length corresponds to the amount of EVs in that stat.
To view your other Pokémon’s EVs just tap on their sprites to cycle through your party.
Step 3: When you notice the green vertical meter bar on the right is filled up and a muscle icon shows up on the top-left of your screen, that means your Pokémon’s total EVs are fully maxed out at 510.
You can even tap the muscle icon to receive a brief congratulatory message for fully training your Pokémon.
Using Super Training not only enables you to keep a close eye on your Pokémon’s EV distribution, but it also provides a way to boost your Pokémon’s EVs.
It’s a useful tool for trainers looking to build the perfect competitive team.
