1 | Battle Maison’s Exchange Service Corner – 16 BP | Yes |
The only way to obtain a Toxic Orb in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire is by visiting the Battle Maison’s Exchange Service Corner. You’ll be able to buy Toxic Orbs for 16 Battle Points (BP) each, and you can get as many copies as you want.
But the Battle Maison is situated at the Battle Resort, which only becomes accessible after completing the Delta Episode in the post-game.
Uses
The Toxic Orb is a held item that inflicts the badly poisoned status condition on the holder at the end of each turn.
Since a Pokémon can only have one status condition at a time, the holder won’t get badly poisoned again unless it’s cured. It should also be noted that Poison-type Pokémon cannot be poisoned.
The Badly Poisoned status condition causes the afflicted Pokémon to lose 1/16th of its Max HP on the first turn, and then the damage incrementally increases by 1/16th more with each passing turn.
Here are some strategies you can use with a Toxic Orb:
- Recovering HP with Poison Heal. The Poison Heal ability restores 1/8th (or 12.5%) of the Pokémon’s max HP at the end of each turn when it’s poisoned or badly poisoned. Although Shroomish and Breloom possess the Toxic Heal ability, Gliscor tends to put it to better use thanks to its decent bulk.
- 50% Attack boost with Guts or Toxic Boost. When a Pokémon with the ability Guts is inflicted with any status condition, including being badly poisoned, its Attack stat increases by 50%. Similarly, Zangoose’s signature ability Toxic Boost provides the same Attack boost specifically when it’s poisoned.
- Facade with Double Base Power. The move Facade doubles its power from 70 to 140 when the user is afflicted by a status condition, including the badly poisoned status condition caused by the Toxic Orb.
- Swapping items with Trick. Using the move Trick, you can swap the user’s Toxic Orb with the opponent’s held item. This would inflict the badly poisoned status on your foe at the end of the turn. While using the move Toxic could also inflict the same status condition, Trick also disrupts the opponent by stripping away the benefits offered by their held item.
