3 | Pickup (Ability) – at Level 51 or higher (1% chance) | Yes |
There are three methods to obtain a Destiny Knot, with all of them allowing you to farm the item repeatedly.
Method #1: If you challenge Young Couple Lois & Hal for a rematch in Sea Mauville, there is a 10% chance that they will give you a Destiny Knot. You will need a Pokémon that knows Surf to get there.
Method #2: After winning a Master Rank Contest in a Contest Spectacular Hall, it is possible to get Destiny Knot from a fan as a gift.
Method #3: A level 51 or higher Pokémon with the Pickup ability has a 1% chance of finding a Destiny Knot after a battle.
Method #1: Sea Mauville – Young Couple Lois & Hal
Of the three methods listed here, the easiest way to get Destiny Knots is by rematching Young Couple Lois & Hal in Sea Mauville. But first, make sure to bring a Pokémon that knows Surf so you can get on the ship.
While there is only a 10% chance that they will give you a Destiny Knot after a rematch, it is possible to save beforehand & soft reset until you get one.
If you haven’t battled Lois & Hal yet, go to Sea Mauville and battle them once. Then walk around for a few minutes and check Trainer’s Eye from time to time until they are ready for another match.
Here’s how to find them:
Step 1: Fly to Sea Mauville. You’ll land on a small island, so you need Surf to reach the ship’s deck. From there, walk north.
Step 2: Turn right and take the entrance to the interior of Sea Mauville.
Step 3: Once inside, go southwest.
Step 4: In the south corridor, take the first door to your right. That’s where you’ll find Lois & Hal.
Step 5: Save your game here.
Once Lois & Hal are ready for a rematch, speak to either of them to start the battle – if you don’t receive the Destiny Knot as soon as you win the rematch, soft reset and battle them again until they give you the item.
Method #2: Contest Spectacular Hall (Master Rank)
When you win Contests in Contest Spectacular Halls, you can speak to your fans in the lobby to receive gifts. If you participate in Master Rank, one of your fans may give you a Destiny Knot.
But when compared to the first method above, getting Destiny Knots via contests is not recommended. In addition to having to reach Master Rank in Contests, the Destiny Knot is only 1 out of 25 in the gift item pool. So it’s a relatively low chance of getting the item through this method.
Method #3: Pickup (Ability)
This last method requires a Level 51 or higher Pokémon with Pickup. In ORAS, Zigzagoon is the easiest Pokémon to catch that can have this ability.
Pickup allows Pokémon in your party to create its own random held item after a battle (10% chance), even if it didn’t participate. The item pool changes as the Pokémon levels up – once it reaches Level 51 and above, there is a 1% chance that it will find a Destiny Knot.
Uses
In battle, if the holder of a Destiny Knot becomes infatuated, the Pokémon it is attracted to also becomes infatuated.
Infatuation is a status condition that causes the afflicted Pokémon to fail 50% of the moves it uses against the Pokémon it is attracted to. But it only works when used against a Pokémon of the opposite gender.
Outside of battle, Destiny Knot is used in breeding. In the Pokémon Day Care, if either parent is holding a Destiny Knot, 5 out of the 12 combined IVs of the parents will be inherited by their offspring. With this item you’ll have an easier time breeding Pokémon with perfect IVs through selective breeding. The Destiny Knot is an essential part of this strategy since it guarantees at least 5 IVs will be passed down from the parents.
