Pokémon-Amie is a feature that lets you interact with your Pokémon in order to raise their affection. This page explains how to use the feature to raise your Pokémon’s affection, the effects it has in battle, and the minigames available.
Pokémon-Amie Basics
You can raise your Pokémon’s affection in multiple ways via Pokemon Amie. These include:
- Petting and high-fiving your Pokémon on the touch screen
- Feeding them Poké Puffs
- Clearing a variety of minigames
- Interacting with your Pokémon using the 3DS’s camera
You can access the Pokémon-Amie screen in the PlayNav feature on the PokéNav Plus.

Once you access the Pokémon-Amie menu, tapping the Pokémon’s sprite in the center of the touch screen will open the menu.
You can choose between playing with the active Pokémon, decorating the Pokémon-Amie screen, or switching to a different Pokémon.

Affection is capped at 255 points and has five different levels, as shown below.
| Affection Level | Required Points |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 |
| 2 | 50 |
| 3 | 100 |
| 4 | 150 |
| 5 | 255 |
Affection Levels
Raising your Pokémon’s affection can lead to different positive effects in battle, as shown below based on their Affection Level.
| Affection Level | Effects |
|---|---|
| 2 | The Pokémon gains an additional 20% EXP points. |
| 3 | The Pokémon has a 10% chance of enduring a KO hit with 1 HP |

Pokémon with higher levels of affection will also have different flavor texts in battle.
Minigames
You can access the minigames menu by tapping the green icon on the top-right corner of the screen while playing with your Pokémon.

Pokémon-Amie has three different minigames:
- Berry Picker
- Head It
- Tile Puzzle
Each game then has four difficulty levels:
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Unlimited
In order to progress to the next level, you must clear the previous level with a three-star rating or higher. Higher levels will give better Poké Puffs as rewards.
You must have at least three Pokémon in your team to start a minigame. All three Pokémon participating in a minigame can gain affection points.
Berry Picker

Berry Picker consists in dragging Berries from the tree to your Pokémon.
You will score points by dragging the correct Berry, which is shown in the thought bubble above the Pokémon’s head, before the Pokémon disappears from the screen.
The minigame starts with a single Pokémon, with the other two joining along the way. Higher difficulties will feature a wider variety of Berries, while your Pokémon will appear and disappear faster.

Head It

Head It consists in hitting a yarn ball by tapping your Pokémon. If you time it correctly, the yarn ball will bounce back up.
As the minigame progresses, your other two Pokémon will join in on the action, making it harder to track and hit the yarn ball. Scoring multiple hits in a row will give you additional points.
At the end of the minigame, you will have a chance to hit a big yarn ball, which awards additional points.

Tile Puzzle

Tile Puzzle consists in completing a puzzle featuring your Pokémon.
However, the image will occasionally change, either zooming in on one specific Pokémon, changing the background, or adding new Pokémon. On the other hand, once you drag a piece to the right spot, it will remain in place until the end of the minigame.
Easy, Normal, and Hard do not have a time-limit.
On Unlimited, the player has to clear multiple puzzles in a row until the timer runs out. Points are scored based on the number of completed puzzles and on the time required to complete each one.
The first puzzle must be completed in 30 seconds, with each correct piece adding one second to the timer. Completing each puzzle will also add a few more seconds to the timer.
The table below lists the required scores for the star ratings, based on the difficulty level.

Making Faces
You can use the 3DS’s camera to play the Making Faces minigame.
When the 3DS’s camera is active, you will see an emoticon on the Pokémon-Amie screen. Interacting with the camera will start the minigame.
If you manage to match the requested expression five times, then you will clear the minigame. Doing so will significantly raise your Pokémon’s affection.
Petting, Feeding, Enjoyment, and Fullness
Selecting the “Play” option in the Pokémon-Amie menu will let you pet your Pokémon, and you can also feed them Poké Puffs.
The amount of affection points you can gain during a Pokémon-Amie session is limited by two stats – enjoyment and fullness.
Enjoyment is indicated by the musical note icons, while fullness is indicated by the Poké Puff icons.

If a Pokémon is at maximum enjoyment, then it won’t gain any affection points by playing minigames, getting petted, or by walking around. Now when your Pokémon is at maximum fullness, then it won’t eat any Poké Puffs.
Just like affection, enjoyment and fullness have a 255-point cap. However, while affection points cannot be lost, enjoyment and fullness can go up or down.
Petting
You can pet your Pokémon by rubbing the touch screen and moving the tiny hand icon that’s on the screen.

All Pokémon have regular petting spots, a favorite petting spot, and a dislike petting spot. Tapping the touch screen will cause you to hit the Pokémon instead.
You will be able to tell them apart by looking at the Pokémon’s reaction and also by listening to the sound effects. A higher pitch will indicate the Pokémon’s favorite petting spot, while a lower pitch will indicate its disliked petting spot.
Petting a Pokémon in a regular spot or in its favorite spot will make the Pokémon’s affection points go up. Petting your Pokémon’s disliked spot won’t give any affection points.
Feeding
You can feed your Pokémon by selecting the pink icon on the top-left corner of the touch screen. After opening the Poké Puff menu, simply drag a Poké Puff to the Pokémon’s mouth in order to feed it.

Your Pokémon will have different animations depending on their level of fullness.
If it’s feeling hungry, then your Pokémon will quickly eat the Poké Puff. However, if it’s feeling somewhat full, then your Pokémon will take longer between each bite.
Now if your Pokémon is already full, then it will simply reject the Poké Puff. When that happens, simply drag the Poké Puff back to the icon on the top-left corner of the screen.
There are seven different types of Poké Puffs. Simpler Poké Puffs will give fewer affection points, while sophisticated Poké Puffs will give a higher amount of points.

The table below lists all types of Poké Puffs, their respective affection points, and how to get each type of Poké Puff.
| Poké Puff Type | Acquisition Method | Affection Points |

Decorations
You can also place decorations on the Pokémon-Amie screen. Decorations have no practical effect, and are merely a customization feature.
You can win decorations by clearing the following goals:
- Unlocking a new difficulty in a minigame
- Earning a five-star rating in any minigame (any difficulty level)
- Raising your Pokémon’s affection level
In order to place a decoration, select the “Decorate” option from the Pokémon-Amie menu, and then tap the “Interior Items” tab.
You can also choose to play Poké Puffs. However, these will have no effect unless you have the Pokémon Search System feature active.
